Thai Airways: Ridicule does not kill But Old Planes Do
February 1 2010 Categories: Understanding Thailand No comments yet
To start the year with a smile Thai Airways Board is fortunate that ridicule does not kill otherwhise it would have been decimated which would have been sad those guys that have given us so many reasons to laugh recently.
The latest move of Thai Airways to improve its image and to compete with Singapore Airline is to get rid of its experienced staff (female air hostesses older than 45 years old).
Indeed according Thai Airways executives the prime appeal of Singapore airlines are the “Singapore Girls” or young cabin attendants of Singapore Airline and not the fact that Singapore Airline average fleet age is 6 years by comparison to Thai Airways with an average fleet age of 12 years (average of 17 years for its Airbus A 300 fleet and 19 years for its ATR fleet).
Of course getting rid of experienced staff cost less than investing in new planes and we will all feel safer flying in a 19 years old plane with a 23 years old flight attendant.
