What is the Education Visa?

The education visa is the visa granted to foreign citizens who want to pursue studies in Thailand.

This type of visa covers the cases of enrollment in a government educational institution or in a private educational institution (High School or University) and is also available to foreign citizen that whishes to conduct training or research into a university or research institute.

Now a lot of foreign investors or employees in Thailand believe that once they have obtained a work permit they are safe and can do whatsoever they please. For example they believe that they can work anywhere they want or that they can also exercise activities which are not mentionned in their work permit. When a work permit is granted to a foreigner it will contain a mention of the work permit holder working place that is to say the location where the foreign employee is allowed to work as well as the work to be performed by the foreign employee

A client just read an article on the “O Dependant Visa” which allows parents of children schooled in Thailand to apply for a one year visa. As he and his wife are both working as consultants from their home he thought that they could take this opportunity to move the whole family to Thailand instead of continuing to live in Germany as they are doing now.

Work Permit: Minimum wages applicable to foreign workers?

Contrary to a common belief there are no minimum wages applicable to foreign workers. But because there is always a but in Thailand the Immigration Department has developed a minimum wage schedule applicable to foreign workers who benefit of a work permit and wants to apply and obtain a one year B visa extension.
