Thailand Work Permit – Working outside the Work Place and other Issues

Now a lot of foreign investors or employees in Thailand believe that once they have obtained a work permit they are safe and can do whatsoever they please. For example they believe that they can work anywhere they want or that they can also exercise activities which are not mentionned in their work permit. When a work permit is granted to a foreigner it will contain a mention of the work permit holder working place that is to say the location where the foreign employee is allowed to work as well as the work to be performed by the foreign employee
Now, if you are in a line of work where you have to frequently meet your clients at their office you will be breaking the law because you will be technically working outside the work place mentioned in your work permit.
In order to avoid this it suffices to mention in the work permit that the foreign employee will have from time to time to work outside the office to for example meet with customers.
The same problem occured to foreign employee which exercise several different functions within a company. Indeed a work permit is given for a specific function as described in the work permit. Therefore to avoid to find yourself in trouble do not forget to describe your functions as well as possible. Indeed the Labor law does not prohibit foreigner to work in many places or to exercise several functions as long as everything is clearly described in the work permit
Finally, having a work permit does not allow you to exercise one of the job which are expressly reserved to Thai citizens
