Doing Business in Thailand

The Business Development Department (BDB) which is the unit of the Ministry of Commerce that is handling new companies registration just issued the updated figures of new companies registration at end of October 2009. Overall 2009 was even worth than 2008 but there are reasons to expect better results next year

Only 35,300 new companies were registered during the first 10 months of 2009 which is 7.43% down by comparison to 2008 that was already a bad year.

The real bad news however is that the number of new companies registered in 2009 does not make up for the companies that closed down during the first 10 months of 2009. To date, 53,415 companies have closed down in 2009.

While those figures are bad there are actually reasons to hope  that the situation will finally improve. The result for October 2009 seems indeed to indicate a change of tendency. The number of new companies’ registration increased slightly in October 2009 by comparison to October 2008 (+2.97%) while the number of companies that closed down in October 2009 was down (- 5.31%) by comparison to October 2008.
