Note: This post is not entirely new. This subject was first posted as a Page called “Thailand Ratings”. I’m about to modify the look of the blog and decided that some of the subjects discussed in pages would now be treated as a post. Of course I updated the content of this post to reflect the current situation.
As we all know, Thailand was one of the victims hit hardest by the 1997 crisis, and many of Thailand’s top developers and financial institutions were bankrupted by the crisis. Earlier in 2009 I was asking whether the 2008 financial crisis would see Thailand revisiting the troubles of 1997.

Please be reminded that as a result of the damages resulting from the flood the government has temporary reduced the social security contributions due by employers and employees. I take this opportunity to remind you that social security contribution are calculated on a salary from 0 to 15,000 THB per month and that the part of the salary in excess to 15,000 THB is not take into account.

The VAT system was introduced in Thailand in 1992 that is to say at the same time than the Special Business Tax (SBT). In a nutshell most transactions (exchange of goods or services) that are occurring in Thailand are either subjected to VAT or to the SBT.The principle of VAT is simple, any business which having a turnover of more than 1,800,000 THB per annum, and that is not subject to the Special Business Tax, must register for VAT within 30 days of the date they reach 1,800,000 THB in sales.

Is Thailand a safe country?
Yes. Thailand has low violent crime statistics compared to other countries such as France or the US. Of course, violence does exist but is not often directed at foreigners. While there are from time to time crimes against foreigners, they are still rarer than in your homeland and when foreigners do get into trouble, they, often bring it upon themselves.

To help you to better understand the difference between a condominium and an apartment building I need first to clarify the definition of the term of “condominium”. For example, most people in Thailand commonly associate the term “condominium” with the concept of an “individual unit” into a “multiple unit building” generally a high rise that may only be sold freehold but condominium ownership is actually far more than this.
